Enmore Pool

-

The current pool in Enmore Park has reached the end of its life.  The pool is leaking and losing heat and the facility badly needs upgrading.

Marrickville Council has a special rate levy to raise funds to redevelop Enmore Pool.  enmoreartistsimpression

The current pool at Enmore is 33 metres.  In the lead up to the last council election there was a political fight about whether the pool should be 25 metres or 50 metres.  Labor and the Independents Victor Macri and Morris Hanna sought to wedge The Greens over the pool and accussed The Greens of  destorying Enmore Park.  A lot of misinformation was spread and it became a hot election issue.

A group called SWIM50 formed and collected 3,000 signatures on a petition calling for a 50 metre pool.  Twenty local school principals also requested a 50 metre pool on behalf of their students.  The Greens believe a 50 metre pool will provide a better, more flexible facility for the community.

The Greens went to the election saying we’d build a 50 metre pool and won every ward in Marrickville, including over 50% of the vote in the area surrounding the pool.  The people had spoken.

Plans for the pool are now progressing well, with a redesign allying much of the community concern about the pools footprint in the park.  The new pool will now take up less space then the current pool.  In addition it will provide public toilets, bicycle parking and a cafe for park users.  In March the Council voted to lodge the Development Application.

Construction on the pool should beging in the second half of 2009 and be finished in time for the begining of summer in 2010.
