With the recent revelation of a gas exploration licence being granted to Macquarie Energy by the NSW Dept of Mineral Resources,  for coal seam gas exploratory drilling at St. Peters, this film is something that all local residents should see.

Gasland shows American filmmaker Josh Fox’s unravelling of the environmental hazards of ‘fracking’ or hydrolic fracturing occuring throughout the US in the current gas drilling boom.

“The *Gaslands* story of an industry that has wreaked environmental destruction across the United States is timely and disturbing – this same industry is now knocking on the NSW Government’s door. This powerful film is a must-see for everyone concerned about the safety of our water and food supplies and the health of our communities and environment.”  Cate Faehrmann Greens MLC,  who will introduce the movie.

  • I presume that Marrickville will stand against Clover Moore’s latest lunacy, i.e., mining the inner-west for natural gas to take the CBD “off the grid”?

      Hi James,

Greens Leader Bob Brown has called for a moratorium on coal-seam gas extraction until it has been proven not to be harmful to the environment or people.

While we support the City of Sydney’s goal to reduce its carbon emissions and support co-generation technology, we oppose the gas being extracted from under densely populated urban areas, particularly if it involves potentially damaging methods of extraction.
